ronalyn.
it was extremely hot. i really hate going home in the afternoon.i was keeping myself alive because the heat was squeezing out every small amount of liquid in my deadbeat body. and so i bought a 12 ounce chocolate flavored Orbitz [hoping that somehow it might save me from a heat stroke] before i indulge myself to the overly-polluted end of MRT - SM North Edsa.
start of story.
upon disembarking from my usual bus ride, i rode a jeepney. i was the first passenger and therefore I was a loner. two little girls rode the jeepney about 25 seconds after me. one of the girl, ronalyn, a grade one pupil in a nearby public school saw what I was holding: the remnants of my Orbitz.
i saw her staring at it with those dark beady eyes and heard her say to her ate, "gusto ko din bumili nun." it felt really awkward having that girl staring at my left over with so much gusto: as if it was the most tasty thing she could ever drink.
i was in the middle of this dilemma: ibibigay ko ba toh o hindi? baka naman isipin ng mga tao [there were other passengers to after the jeep took off] pinapalimusan ko toh. itapon ko na lang kaya? masama naman yun at magiging instant agent of pollution ako.
not until i heard this conversation:
ronalyn: "ate, may pera ka pa?"
ate: "kwatro na lang."
ronalyn: "ako may piso pa. makakabili ba tayo nun?"
ate: "hindi ko alam, mahal yun eh."
and so i gave my left over to ronalyn. she drank it with so much eagerness and commented, "ang sarap!" she even shared it with her ate.
i realized that i always take this for granted: be grateful. count your blessings.
i may not have the latest and grandest toys when i was a kid but i never ever experienced the moment orbitz-ronalyn moment.
i just hope, wherever ronalyn is, she would continue to pursue her education and after 15 years or so, be successful and help not just one little kid but a bunch.
just the way i did.
*winks*
